WASHINGTON, D.C. – Yesterday, President Biden announced a slate of executive actions aimed at combating the climate crisis. Specifically these actions are aimed at protecting communities from extreme heat, lowering cooling costs for communities suffering from extreme heat, and expanding offshore wind opportunities and jobs. Mary Small, National Advocacy Director at Indivisible, issued the following statement in response:
“President Biden’s slate of executive actions to respond to intensifying extreme heat and expand renewable energy are more important steps in the right direction to mitigate the growing consequences of climate change.
“As parts of central Europe are battling deadly wildfires and record-breaking temperatures, and places like New York are struggling to manage the flooding from massive storms, we recognize the importance of President Biden’s leadership on this issue. He understands the breadth of this crisis, and the importance of joining the global community in doing the work to mitigate the damage.
“There’s no other way to say it – the climate crisis is the greatest existential threat we face, and we are drastically behind where we should be in preventing total climate catastrophe. We celebrate President Biden’s progress in announcing these executive actions, and we are hopeful he’ll continue to build off these strong actions by declaring a national climate emergency.”
