Washington, D.C. — Today, Indivisible’s Managing Director and Arizona Battleground Lead Mari Urbina released the following statement on Rep. Ruben Gallego’s victory in the Arizona Senate race:
“Ruben Gallego’s victory in the Arizona Senate race is a testament to Gallego’s story, leadership and fight on behalf of everyday Arizonans. Ruben built a broad and durable coalition that supports reproductive freedom, a healthy democracy and economic prosperity.
“From early in the cycle, Ruben demonstrated he took the grassroots, pro-democracy movement in Arizona seriously. Early on in his campaign, he attended multiple Indivisible Summits, met with individual groups in every corner of the state, and received over 20 endorsements from Indivisible groups across Arizona – breaking the record. He unleashed a grassroots force of community members who were eager to get out the vote for him – and that is exactly what they did!
“Indivisibles hit the trail and knocked on doors in 100+ degree heat, they spoke with voters in rural and Republican pockets of the state, and made sure no vote was left behind. They believe in Gallego, and made sure other voters do too.
“Ruben Gallego tapped into a well of grassroots power and inspired people across Arizona to get involved. Gallego’s win tonight reaffirms what we already know: people are sick of MAGA extremism and divisive rhetoric. Arizonans are ready for a new chapter in American politics.
“Despite Lake’s attempts to marginalize communities and sow division, Gallego stayed focused on building bridges with different communities in Arizona and engaged Indivisibles in every corner of the state – from Maricopa to rural Pima county. Gallego is the only Senate candidate who has met with every single Native Nation in the state, he made sure to visit every single county in Arizona, and he picked up support from organizations across the political spectrum.
“Indivisible is thrilled that Congressman Gallego will be going back to D.C. as a Senator in January, and we are certain he’ll be a strong voice for reproductive freedom, democracy, and for his constituents alongside Senator Mark Kelly.”
