Washington, DC — The Indivisible Project’s National Policy Director Angel Padilla released the following statement:
“The damage done tonight was entirely predictable, and avoidable. There is only one person to blame for this: Donald Trump. Since coming to office, Trump has deliberately escalated, provoked, and threatened war with Iran. Last week, he ordered the assassination one of its political leaders, knowing that Iran would retaliate. And now it has.
“Congress must act decisively and fast to stop Trump’s warmongering. Every day we wait is a message from Congress to Trump to continue his march to war. After tonight, delaying to next week is irresponsible.
“We urge the House to immediately pass a strong war powers resolution, as well as the bills offered by Reps. Ro Khanna (CA-17) and Barbara Lee (CA-13) that would prevent war with Iran, and urge the Senate to take those critical measures up immediately upon passage.
“The anti-war majority of Americans will be paying close attention to what their members of Congress do, not what they say.”
