Washington — Following Sen. Joe Manchin’s announcement that he would not seek re-election in 2024, Ezra Levin, co-executive director of Indivisible, released the following statement:
“Joe Manchin’s decision not to run for reelection caps off a career of open contempt for working people. His obvious intention to run an ego-driven spoiler campaign for president is a continuation of the self-centered, self-enriching style of leadership he’s embraced for the entirety of his career. He’s pursued a life of public service that’s never actually served the public.
“West Virginians know: Manchin used his tenure to enrich those in his orbit. Indivisible activists and the state's strong network of grassroots groups all worked for years to get Joe Manchin to engage with them in good faith. He could have done so much more for his state with the leverage he had.
“We can and will achieve the big priorities of undoing the filibuster, saving democracy, and protecting reproductive freedoms without him.”

About the Indivisible Project
The Indivisible Project (501c4) is a social movement non-profit driven by a vision of a real democracy - of, by, and for the people. Indivisible began in 2016 as a viral guide to resisting Trump’s agenda. Today, the Indivisible movement is a network of thousands of local groups and millions of activists across every state. The Indivisible Project drives campaigns for bold progressive policies, lobbies Congress, and equips activists with tools to build lasting progressive power, everywhere. Together, we fight to defeat the rightwing takeover of American government and build an inclusive democracy.
