WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today, following reports of violence against a Kamala Harris supporter at a peaceful rally in York, Pennsylvania, hosted a coalition of Indivisibles and other grassroots group, Indivisible co-founder and co-executive director Ezra Levin issued the following statement:
“Today in York, Pennsylvania, during a peaceful rally hosted by a coalition of Indivisibles and other grassroots groups, a Trump supporter violently attacked an elderly attendee. Let us be clear: violence in any form is unacceptable. This was a cowardly, reprehensible act aimed at intimidating our movement and silencing our voices. We will not stand for it.
“Indivisible is committed to building a future where our differences are settled through dialogue, not brutality. MAGA extremists have repeatedly shown they rely on violence and fear because they have nothing else to offer. This assault only strengthens our resolve to defeat this toxic agenda and protect our democracy.
“We demand accountability for this attack and stand in full solidarity with the victim, and with our local partners in York and the rest of the 10th District. Indivisible will never be intimidated, and we will continue to organize for a future free of this kind of violence and intimidation.”
Susan Roller, with PA 10th District Network, released the following statement:
"Today, we gathered for a peaceful, joyful rally for Vice President Harris and Governor Walz, along with other Democratic candidates, believing we could safely exercise our First Amendment rights in our community. Unfortunately, we were wrong. One of our members was violently attacked by an angry bully simply for attending this peaceful rally. We find it especially ironic that MAGA trolls frequently attend our rallies, waving MAGA signs without fear of retribution. They know we are civilized.
“This shocking act of political violence in our own neighborhood is a sobering reminder of the deep divisions we face. We condemn all forms of violence and hope for healing in our country. With that said, we will not be intimidated. Tomorrow we head out again, rallying and visiting local gathering spaces, with our signs, our banners, and our Mobile Billboard Truck, sponsored by the Democratic Messaging Project. With Indivisible and our companion grassroots organizations behind us, we will continue to speak up -- freely, peacefully, and proudly -- for what we believe in."
