Indivisible Project’s statement on Indivisible Naperville’s event on January 6, 2024
Our expectation is that all Indivisible groups create spaces that allow for the physical safety and respect for all attendees, and that they appreciate and respect other activists, especially those from marginalized groups, regardless of policy differences. At their January 6th event and in the weeks that followed, Indivisible Naperville fell short of this standard. We apologize for the physical confrontation that occurred at the event, the ongoing debate, and any harmful or inappropriate comments by Indivisible Naperville members. We have asked Indivisible Naperville to apologize and hold the person responsible for the physical confrontation accountable. On our end, we are working on guidance for groups about how to respond to protests from allies at events.
Indivisible reiterates our call for an immediate ceasefire in Israel and Gaza. Every day of continued violence and destruction is causing incalculable harm, increasing the risk of further regional escalation and making Palestinians, Israelis, and everyone in the region less safe. We urge President Biden to join the international community in demanding an immediate ceasefire, a return of all hostages, and all necessary humanitarian assistance.
