Washington, DC — Today, Meagan Hatcher-Mays, Director of Democracy Policy for the Indivisible Project, issued the following statement on the announcement of the articles of impeachment:
“The articles of impeachment against Donald Trump announced by House Democrats today highlight the most brazen corruption ever perpetrated by a President of the United States. Trump blatantly abused his power by trying to strong-arm Ukraine into interfering with the 2020 elections, and he tried to cover up his misconduct by obstructing Congress from fully investigating these actions. These charges have been proven by a litany of witnesses and reflect a pattern of behavior that, unfortunately, the American people have come to expect from the most corrupt president in the history of this country.
“But this is not normal. And while the articles of impeachment do not include every deplorable action taken by Trump, the charges do include serious offenses that prove he cannot be trusted with the powers of the presidency. The House must impeach him as soon as humanly possible, because our elections are precious and our democracy is too fragile to survive his corrupt leadership.”
