Washington, DC—Today, the Indivisible Project’s associate policy director Elizabeth Beavers issued the following statement:
“We are extremely disappointed in the outcome of this vote because of what it means and how preventable it was. The message Congress sent by Gina Haspel’s confirmation is this: when you promote a torturer, you promote torture.
“Senate Republicans could have rejected Trump’s unacceptable pick. Senate Democrats could have denied Republicans the votes needed to confirm her. They didn’t do that, and now they’re going to have to explain this vote to their constituents and to the world for a long time.”
“Indivisible groups around the country are looking to their Members of Congress to do all they can to keep Trump’s dangerous policy agenda in check. The Senate just made that job harder today.”
