Washington, DC — Today, Indivisible’s Legislative Director Andrew O’Neill released the following statement:
“What a mess. This was designed to be a messaging bill, written to make Democrats look bad, so the actual policy doesn’t make a ton of sense and is both cruel and unworkable. And ten Democrats handed Republicans this victory without a fight.
Some Senate Democrats wanted to have an actual conversation about immigration and amend the bill to address concerns, but Republicans made it clear they had no interest limiting the dangers of this bill, or even cleaning up the sloppy and overly-broad policy changes. ‘Actual conversations’ are not one-sided. Hopefully this is a lesson Democrats only have to learn once.
“House Democrats will have one last shot to do the right thing and oppose this bill. They stood together against the Republicans' ‘Child Predator Empowerment Act,’ and they came out looking strong, purposeful, and serious. They will be making a huge mistake if they don’t take one more opportunity to take a stand.”

ABOUT THE INDIVISIBLE PROJECT
The Indivisible Project (501c4) is a social movement non-profit driven by a vision of a real democracy - of, by, and for the people. Indivisible began in 2016 as a viral guide to resisting Trump’s agenda. Today, the Indivisible movement is a network of thousands of local groups and millions of activists across every state. The Indivisible Project drives campaigns for bold progressive policies, lobbies Congress, and equips activists with tools to build lasting progressive power, everywhere. Together, we fight to defeat the rightwing takeover of American government and build an inclusive democracy.
