Washington, DC—The Indivisible Project’s associate policy director Elizabeth Beavers released the following statement in support of the introduction of bipartisan, bicameral resolutions to end U.S. participation in the Saudi-led Yemen war:
“While Congress has been performing acrobatics to avoid exercising its constitutional war power responsibilities, the people of Yemen continue to suffer at the end of U.S.-made and U.S.-supported bombs. We applaud the Members of Congress leading the effort to end U.S. participation in this unauthorized and brutal conflict.
“There is no constituency that exists to support continued U.S. involvement in the world’s largest humanitarian crisis. To the contrary, many, including our own movement, welcomed the Senate’s historic passage of the Yemen war powers resolution in December. It is anti-democratic to wage this war wholly apart from the checks and balances mandated by the constitution. The public expects Congress to aggressively assert its powers to define when and where the United States goes to war.
“We urge the House and the Senate to quickly pass the Yemen war powers resolution in the new Congress and to rebuke the Trump administration’s cover-up of and complicity in Saudi crimes.”
