Washington, DC — Today, Indivisible released the following statement:
On conservatives’ accusations that Indivisible is sending “paid protesters” to town halls:
Republicans are whining that the blowback they're getting at town halls is coming from paid protesters. It's not, but they're welcome to keep deluding themselves as long as they want. It didn’t work when they tried this in 2017-2018, and it won’t work to save them from electoral collapse this time. Indivisible groups are organizing regular people to show up at their local town halls, and regular people - Republicans, Independents, and Democrats - are turning out because they’re furious at what Musk, Trump, and MAGA are doing. The outrage is real and widespread, and congressional Republicans ignore or try to invalidate it at their own peril.
On who is attending Republicans’ town halls:
Republicans want to pretend they’re only getting yelled at by "outside agitators" because they can’t admit the truth: it’s their own constituents who are furious with them. Indivisible groups around the country get the word out when they see a town hall is announced. However, the idea that Indivisible groups alone can account for the outrage Republicans are feeling is laughable. The simple reality is that regular people everywhere are outraged and making their voices heard. Musk is a real political liability for Republicans, and the blowback is only going to get worse.
To give an example, Indivisible North Metro Atlanta helped organize their members to attend Rep. McCormick's town hall and reported back to us that hundreds more people were there on their own. There were so many angry constituents present that the event needed an overflow room. That matches what our folks are reporting from around the country, in red, purple, and blue districts. The outrage is real, and it's everywhere.
On the ways we support Indivisible groups:
Indivisible groups are made up of constituent volunteers who are independent and do all their organizing on their own time -- which we believe is what makes Indivisible such a durable grassroots movement that’s changed what’s politically possible in the U.S. They’re teachers, nurses, small business owners, and retirees, who care about their communities.
We’re proud to be in a position to support Indivisible groups in their work. The main ways we support them are through training, coaching, and strategic guidance, but we’re also proud to now be able to offer reimbursements for some costs. When Indivisible groups put on events, we can help cover the costs of extremely sinister stuff like cardboard and markers, pizza, and soda. We encourage Indivisible groups to check out more information about this in our toolkits.
On the NRCC’s orders that Republicans stop holding town halls to avoid constituents and their questions:
Republicans in Congress are so terrified of their own voters that their party bosses are ordering them to stop holding town halls altogether. Instead of facing their constituents, they’d rather hide and let an unelected billionaire take over the country. That’s not democracy—that’s cowardice.
Indivisibles across the country are mobilizing to hold Republicans accountable - and orders from the NRCC that Republicans should hide from their constituents won't stop us. Republicans in Congress are currently aiding and abetting the total takeover of our government by an unelected billionaire, threatening to shut down our government, and advancing a legislative agenda to gut our healthcare and raise our costs of living so that they can shower billionaires with huge tax breaks.
