Washington, DC—The Indivisible Project’s co-executive director Ezra Levin released the following statement following the House of Representatives' passage of a continuing resolution containing $5.7 billion in wall funding.
“House Republicans already lost. It's all over except for the yelling. Tonight the feckless House Republicans fecklessly passed a feckless messaging bill giving into Trump’s feckless and stupid demands for a border wall. It's a meaningless gesture that does nothing but bring the Republican-controlled government closer to a shutdown. The funding bill has a zero percent chance of passing the Senate. This bill is deader than the Republican House majority - which itself expires soon. In two weeks, the adults are in charge, and these Trumpist toddlers can take a nap after their temper tantrum."
“In stark contrast, the Democratic leadership has used its leverage effectively during these negotiations. If they stay the course tomorrow, they have the power to deny Trump this cruel and absurd campaign promise that Americans overwhelmingly rejected on November 6th.
“Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi both deserve credit for holding firm this week and refusing to cave on new funding for Trump's border atrocities. It’s the right thing to do, morally and strategically, and the Indivisibles that built the blue wave will have their backs.”
The Indivisible Project’s national policy director Angel Padilla released the following statement:
“The American people have spoken, and they don’t want their tax dollars used to build Trump’s racist wall, to cage and separate families, to tear gas women and children, or to terrorize communities across the country. Indivisible groups in all fifty states are committed to fighting for justice for immigrants at the border and in every community.
“The Senate unanimously passed a funding bill that would keep the government open and it’s Donald Trump and his accomplices in Congress who are now bringing us closer to a government shutdown. It’s up to the Senate now to honor the will of American voters by rejecting Trump’s wall. Democrats have stood up to Trump’s racist, outrageous demands, and the progressive grassroots are with them.”
